About Walk & Talk Therapy

What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?

Walk & Talk therapy is a mindfulness-based therapy. Walking in nature while talking can make it easier for clients to relax, breathe deeply and release physical tension while processing experiences in a different way. As the name describes, clients talk with Tami while walking outdoors rather than sitting in an office. Walking side by side rather than sitting face to face enables some clients to feel more comfortable when sharing in the therapy process. Walk & Talk sessions require an initial intake counseling session conducted in office online.

If you love nature and sit inside all day, there’s an alternative to sitting inside for an hour therapy session. Being in nature has many therapeutic benefits and acts as a co-therapist when you add in nature based therapy. Whether it’s walking and talking in nature or sitting on a park bench you are being supported by nature and a caring counselor.

A Positive Activity

We know through research that healthy endorphins, the happy hormones, are created by your body when you perform some level of exercise.

When we combine this activity (walking) with nature (being outside) clients often find it easier to reach a deeper meditative state and greater insights.

Reduces Anxiety

Movement (especially in Nature) can help with decreasing any anxiety a person may be feeling during a therapy session. Often times, A client may feel more at ease and relaxed after engaging in gently walking while simultaneously processing their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

Reduces Intrusive Thoughts

Think of intrusive thoughts as the unwanted thoughts that may cause significant distress and anxiety for you. Often, these intrusive thoughts can include persistent self-doubt, difficulty making decisions  or other worries and questions that do not have a definite answer.

Oftentimes, individuals who do well with Walk & Talk therapy enjoy being in nature. Some others find it difficult to sit still while trying to process emotions in a traditional therapy session. Even others seek Walk & Talk therapy because they don’t like the sometimes awkward format of being stared at by a therapist sitting across from them. Similarly, they may come from a job in which they sit at a desk all day.
